Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Senior Data Engineer (BigQuery) to join our Data Lake team.  You will be instrumental in modeling, building, and maintaining data pipelines and architectures in this role.  Primarily focusing on Google BigQuery, you will play a key role in developing and optimizing our data architecture, ensuring the efficient handling and accessibility of large-scale datasets.

What You’ll Do

• Implement scalable and efficient data models within our data lake, with a focus on BigQuery
• Manage and optimize data storage, partitioning, and indexing strategies to ensure high performance and reliability of our data infrastructure. 
• Develop and implement features and enhancements in BigQuery, levering your expertise in SQL and cloud-based data warehousing technologies
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that align with business objectives. Develop documentation for the team to support design discussions
• Ensure data integrity and quality by implementing robust data validation and error-handling mechanisms. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.
• Participate in the full lifecycle of data management, from ingestion to ETL process, and final reporting layers.  Identify and implement improvements to increase productivity on the team
• Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data engineering and big data technologies

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We’re looking for someone who: 

• Can work remotely or from an Applied Systems office.

Your experience should include some or all of the following: 

• 8+ years as a data engineer, with a strong focus on BigQuery and cloud-based data warehousing solutions

• Proficiency in SQL and experience with scripting languages such as Python
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and big data architectures
• Experience in managing and optimizing BigQuery and other Google Cloud Platform data services.
• Knowledge of Agile frameworks, ideally Scrum, and tools like Jira and Confluence
• Ability to communicate in a team-oriented environment to clarify requirements and deliver solutions within committed timelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented mindset
• Bachelor-level degree in Computer Science, MIS, or CIS, or equivalent experience
