Job Overview

Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently looking for a Project Manager to join our evolving Product Management Canada team, taking responsibility for the overall delivery of a project or multiple projects within the Product function; as well as helping grow our Operational and Analytics discipline.  This includes the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and successful completion of the project or initiative.

 

You will work cross-functionally to ensure Product Managers and other Product leaders are supported throughout the selected business initiatives & programs.  This will include working with the product team to establish key performance indicators and monitoring performance to ensure consistent & quality product delivery.

You will work on moderate to highly complex workloads and develop domain knowledge for the solution lines they support.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee operational discipline, processes and methodology, and program management
  • Create long- and short-term project plans, including setting targets for milestones and documenting in the chosen platform [currently Confluence and Smartsheet]
  • Delegate tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them
  • Serve as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy
  • Communicate with key stakeholders, including Executives, on the status of the project as well as any risks or concerns that are raised regarding timelines & successful delivery
  • Adjust schedules and targets on the project as needed, including updating all documentation and key stakeholders as appropriate
  • Hold analysts and product managers accountable for creating & maintaining product reporting portfolio, including but not limited to, ad-hoc reports, self-service dashboards, and advanced analyses
  • Prepare, conduct, and document internal and external project meetings for distribution
  • Utilize generally accepted/recognized project management methodology and practices
  • Assist management in mentoring new Project Managers to the organization, as requested
  • Pursue a program of self-development through selected reading, seminars, and participation in continuing education (both internal and external).
  • Identify and communicate possible improvements in the work process for customers and peers.
  • Serve as a point person for established and emerging technologies {i.e., Analytics software, roadmap software, Project Management software}
  • Champion data literacy & data-driven decision-making within the Product organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Product Ops leadership

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Can work remotely or from an Applied Systems office
  • Ability to travel

Your experience should include some or all of the following:

  • Minimum of 5 years of Project work experience including the ability to manage large business and technology projects through the full software development lifecycle
  • Extensive knowledge in the use of Project Management methodologies (agile, scrum, waterfall, etc.)
  • Demonstrated analytic experience
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint for documentation purposes
  • Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders; set direction and approach; resolve conflict; deliver tough messages; execute with limited information and ambiguity
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in the areas of Information Science, Computer Science, or related disciplines

Additionally, you may have:

  • Experience in Product and/or Product Management
  • Familiarity with data-driven storytelling and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Google Analytics, Optimizely, Amplitude, Domo, Pendo, or Looker
  • JIRA and Dragonboat knowledge is a plus
  • A background working for a SaaS or software company
